Installing Video Codecs

Video Codecs are kind of like drivers. They tell your computer how to play different kinds of video. The two most popular codecs that don't usually come with computers are DivX and XviD.

Both file types end with “.avi” but are different none the less. If you try to play a video and don't have the codec, it either won't play at all or more commonly will play with audio but no video.

These codecs aren't required for every section of this guide but are needed for many of them. I recommend you install both because most downloaded video will be in one of these formats.
